Who this is for
Anyone setting up a set of farms to model mitigation strategies against. You build the project first; scenarios run against it afterwards.
Before you start
A project is a set of completed farm assessments from one year, held together so a scenario can run across all of them at once. The year is fixed when you create the project — a 2024 project contains 2024 assessments, and only farms with a completed 2024 assessment can go into it.
An assessment has to be completed, with a result, to be available. Farms whose assessment is still in progress will not appear in the list.
Steps
- In the left-hand menu, select Scenario Planning, then Projects. The Scenarios page opens on Project Planning, with your existing projects shown as cards under Your Project Plans.
- Set Select year. The year filters both the projects listed and the farms available to put in a new one.
- Select Create Project Plan. The Create New Project Plan panel opens.
- Enter a Project Name and a Description. Both are required.
- Under Select Farms, choose the farms for the project. The counter in the top right shows how many you have selected out of the farms available for that year. You can:
- search by farm name, code, region or tag
- sort and filter on the table columns — region, tags, carbon footprint, total emissions, milk production, animals — to narrow the list before selecting, for example farms in one region with more than 100 animals and a footprint above 1.3
- use Columns to change which columns are shown
- use Quick Select to take every farm in the current list, or a percentage of it
- To take the top farms on a measure rather than a flat percentage, open Advanced. Top N takes the first farms from the list as it currently stands, ranked on carbon footprint. By Column does the same thing on a column you choose instead — milk production, total emissions or herd size. Enter a Custom Percentage and select Apply, or use one of the Quick Apply percentages. The Distribution Preview shows the range across the current list and where your selection sits in it.
- Select Create Project.
How to confirm it worked
Project created successfully appears, and the project shows in Your Project Plans with its assessment year, the farms it contains and its scenario count.
If no farms appear while you are selecting, check the year first. With no year set, or a year those farms have no completed assessment for, there is nothing to choose from.
Change a project later
Select the ⋯ menu on a project's card in Your Project Plans. From there you can Edit the project — its name, description and the farms in it — or Delete it. Deleting removes the project and every scenario run on it.
On the project page itself, Manage farms adds farms to the project and removes them.
Adding a farm to a project that already has scenarios leaves that farm without a simulation, and a farm whose data has changed since the scenario ran leaves its simulation out of date. Neither makes the existing results wrong; it means the project is no longer modelled consistently across every farm.
The project page tells you when this has happened. The Farms panel carries a Status column showing each farm as Up to date or Outdated, and a banner appears above the table reading N farms have stale scenario data, with Reprocess alongside it. Select Reprocess to bring every flagged farm back into line in one go.
