Edit farm data

Change a farm's code, name, region or location, and know what that does to its results.

Who this is for

Anyone keeping the farm database current: correcting a detail that was entered wrongly, or assigning a region that did not exist when the farm was created. You edit one farm at a time.

Before you start

You can change the same fields you set when you created the farm: the farm code, the farm name, the region and the location. The same rules apply as on creation — the code must be unique across your account, and both the code and the name must be at least five characters.

Two of these changes reach beyond the farm record, and they behave differently.

A change of region is reflected in reporting immediately. As soon as you save, the farm's results are grouped under the new region. Nothing needs to be rerun.

A change of coordinates is not. Submitting an assessment calculates its result and stores a copy of it. That stored result does not change afterwards, whatever you edit on the farm. Since a farm's country and climate zone come from its coordinates, moving the pin only affects results calculated from that point on — the next assessment you submit for the farm, or an existing one you resubmit.

So if a farm's location is wrong, fix it before its assessment is submitted rather than after.

Steps

  1. In the left-hand menu, select Farm Data, then Farms.
  1. Find the farm in the list.
  1. Select the edit button on the farm's row. You can also open the farm's page by selecting its name and edit it from there — the fields are the same either way, and the farm's page is where you see its assessments and its results over time.
  1. Change what you need to change, then save.

How to confirm it worked

The farm's new values appear in the CODE and NAME columns of the Farms list.

If you changed the region, open your reporting and confirm the farm now appears under the region you expect.

Common problems

The farm code is already in use. Codes are unique across your account, so the platform blocks the save and tells you the code is taken — the same behaviour as when you create a farm. Choose a different one.

Results have not changed after correcting the location. This is expected. A submitted assessment keeps the result it was calculated with. Resubmit the assessment to recalculate it with the corrected coordinates/climate zone.

The region you want is not in the dropdown. Regions must exist in your account before they can be assigned. Create the region first, then come back and edit the farm.
