Who this is for
Anyone setting up the farm database who needs to add one farm at a time. To add many farms at once, use Bulk Upload instead.
Before you start
Decide the farm code you will use. The code is your own identifier — the platform does not generate one for you, so agree a format with your team before you start adding farms.
Have the farm's coordinates to hand. The location is more than a map pin: the country and climate zone recorded against the farm are both derived from the coordinates, and both affect the farm's results. A pin dropped a few hundred metres out will not matter. A pin dropped in the wrong part of the country will.
If you want to assign the farm to a region, that region must already exist in your account. The dropdown only lists regions that have been created.
Steps
- In the left-hand menu, select Farm Data, then Farms.
- Select Add Farm. The Create New Farm window opens.
- Enter a Farm Code. This is the farm's unique identifier and must be at least five characters.
- Enter a Farm Name. This must also be at least five characters.
- Choose a Region if you use them. This is optional — leave it as No region if the farm does not belong to one, or if the region has not been created yet. You can assign it later.
- Set the Farm Location. Click the farm's position on the map, or type its coordinates into Latitude and Longitude. A location is required.
- Select Create Farm.
Use Current Location reads the location of the device you are working on, not the farm's. Only use it if you are physically at the farm. Otherwise click the map or enter the coordinates.

How to confirm it worked
The Create New Farm window closes and you are back on the Farms list, where the new farm appears with its code in the CODE column and its name in the NAME column. Select the farm's name to open its page and see its full detail.
Check the COUNTRY and CLIMATE ZONE columns as well. You do not enter these — they come from the coordinates you set. If either is wrong, the location is wrong, and both affect the farm's results. For how they are used in the calculation, see the methodology documentation in the platform.
Creating a farm does not create an assessment. The farm record is what everything else attaches to: assessments, notes, visits and further detail are all added to the farm afterwards.
Common problems
The farm code is already in use. Codes are unique across your account, so the platform blocks the save and tells you the code is taken. Choose a different one.
The region you want is not in the dropdown. Regions must exist in your account before they can be assigned. Create the region first, then edit the farm to assign it.
