What it is
A corporate assessment is one business unit's data for one reporting year, covering scope 1, scope 2 and scope 3. Each scope carries its own status, so scope 1 can be finished while scope 3 is still open.
Reporting years are calendar years. A business unit can hold one assessment per year and no more — try to create a second and ODOS tells you an assessment already exists.
Assessments roll up through your business unit structure. A parent unit's figure includes the units beneath it, and the top of the structure is your company footprint. Because every unit holds its own assessment, you can report at whatever level you need rather than only at company level.
How a corporate assessment gets created
Two routes:
- New Assessment on the assessments list, where you choose the business unit and the year.
- The business unit's own page, where you choose the year.
What the scope statuses mean
You find them under Corporate Data > Assessments:
The list shows one row per business unit and reporting year, with a status column for each scope.
Status | What it means |
Not started | Nothing has been collected for this scope yet. |
In progress | Collection has started. Some categories are still to be collected, or are collected but not yet matched to emission factors. |
Completed | Every category in the scope has been collected and matched. The scope's figures are available in your results. |
Why it matters for your results
Each reporting year has its own assessment and its own result, so you can follow a unit year on year.
Each scope's figures reach Measurement > Corporate Emissions as that scope reaches Completed. Wait until all three scopes are Completed before you read the total. Until then it only includes the scopes that are finished.
If your farms are in ODOS, their completed carbon results feed your corporate scope 3 in place of generic values. Finishing the farm reporting cycle before you close scope 3 therefore changes the number you get.
A completed assessment can be reopened and its data changed. The figures that result replace the previous ones.
